PASSIONATE ABOUT
GENEALOGY

Daniel's passion for genealogy began in his early 30s when he inherited his late uncle’s family tree, which at the time contained 600 recorded relatives. As the years passed and Daniel developed his career as a linguist, his fascination with uncovering ancestral histories deepened. With the rise of artificial intelligence reshaping the linguistic services industry in the early 2020s, Daniel chose to retire from his career as a linguist and turn his lifelong hobby into a full-time profession. His personal family tree, which has since grown to nearly 18,000 individuals, stretches back over a millennium to Rollo "The Walker" (c. 850-933), who was the first Viking-origin ruler of Normandy. Today, Daniel is based on the Sunshine Coast and helps clients from around the world trace their own family histories, uncovering stories and connections that span many generations.

BIO AT A GLANCE

Daniel was born in Germany to parents of German/English/French and German/Polish/Danish descent and grew up in the southern Bavarian city of Ingolstadt. He completed a degree in Business Studies, majoring in law and marketing, which provided him with a strong foundation for his future entrepreneurial ventures. After graduating in the late 1990s, he migrated to Sydney, Australia, embracing a new life and eventually becoming an Australian citizen in 2010. His passion for lifelong learning led him to further his education with a few semesters of psychology at University of Sydney and later a Graduate Certificate of Research Methods from Southern Cross University. He is a member of the Society of Australian Genealogists and the California Genealogical Society.

Daniel spent a decade as a successful entrepreneur in the luxury boating industry on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, gaining valuable experience and insights. After selling his Sydney company in 2009, he decided to further pursue his passion for languages and worked as a court-appointed and NAATI-accredited translator and interpreter for 15 years in Australia and Germany, utilizing his multilingual skills to bridge language barriers in legal settings. His love of languages has always extended beyond his professional work—Daniel speaks English, German, Spanish and Hebrew as well as a little bit of French.

In 2021, he relocated to the beautiful Sunshine Coast, seeking a new chapter for himself and his family. Daniel is married with one son and enjoys balancing his professional life with personal passions, which include traveling, diving, languages, literature and exploring his family history through genealogy, and of course his lifelong love for the Greek island of Paros
